Calligraphy Alphabet Letters in Every Language

The definition of the word calligraphy is beautiful writing. The Romans had developed what we call books by folding parchment paper made from the skins of animals. The Monks in the Catholic Church developed the Gothic style when they started to write the Bible in calligraphy. At that time most reading was limited to the very wealthy and those of royalty, since most of the population was illiterate. The monks used a goose plume pen that they dipped in bottle ink to write with. At this time, the monks used parchment or vellum paper to write on. This method was very time consuming as the ink did not last very long on the plume pen. The monks that lived in Scotland and Ireland used the Uncial calligraphy style which is now known as the Insular style.
After the invention of the printing press the art of calligraphy was not used as much. But due to the fact that the printing press could not replicate all of the styles of calligraphy, with the help of artists around the world, calligraphy made its come back.
